    Why research?

The physicians and providers at College Park Family Care Center have a strong commitment to provide their patients with the most current, up-to-date choices of medication available, and to stay on the cutting-edge of new medicines. The Research Department was formed in 1995 to better serve the health needs of our community and the pharmaceutical industry. The research staff consists of select physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and research nurses committed to ensuring that your research experience is safe, pleasant, and confidential.

    What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a carefully designed study that involves people like you who volunteer to receive investigational medication under close supervision by a physician and other research professionals. Pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies have developed these treatments. These companies have then selected physicians, also called investigators, who are qualified to conduct clinical trials. It is through these trials that investigational drugs may show their benefits. Clinical trials may also continue after a drug is FDA approved. Studies are conducted that compare the new drug (in terms of its safety, effectiveness and cost) to other drugs already on the market. Other research studies may determine if a therapy can be administered to children or special populations.

Clinical Research studies conducted at College Park Family Care Center over the years have lead to the FDA approval of many new medications, such as: Nasonex, Claritin, Clarinex, Zomig, Imitrex, Serevent, Advair, Glucovance, Atrovent Nasal Spray, and Prilosec.

None of these medications would be available to consumers today, were it not for the help of hundreds of people like you, who care enough to contribute your time and energy to the advancement of medical knowledge.

    Why should I participate?

A clinical trial presents a unique opportunity to participate in innovative research, utilizing a promising new medication or device. Since patients are seen frequently, they receive very thorough health care. In addition to free medical care including physical exams, lab tests, X-rays, and study medication, patients are also paid for their participation. Patients in medical research studies gain an increased understanding of their disease process. Every volunteer in a clinical trial is extremely valuable and important. Without volunteers, there would be no new drugs to fight diseases and ailments. By participating in a clinical trial, you are helping yourself and others like you live longer and healthier lives now and far into the future.

    What is involved?

Take a few minutes to browse through the health indications listed to learn about research studies offered at our facility. If interested in participating, or learning more about a particular clinical trial, contact the research staff at (913)469-9887.

The research staff will discuss the study with you and answer any questions you may have. Based on this information, you will be able to determine if the study would benefit you and your medical needs.

If you are a potential candidate for the clinical trial, you will be scheduled for a screening visit to determine your eligibility. Prior to any procedures being preformed, you will read an informed consent document and again be given an opportunity to receive answers to any questions you may have. If you qualify, you will be enrolled in the study, which will require some time and cooperation on your part. For example, most studies will require that you be scheduled for several office visits, use the provided study medication, and record symptoms in a provided study diary. After a study visit, a check will be mailed to your home. Compensation varies from study to study, and is usually based on the procedures involved at the study visit and the amount of time required.

For more information, please contact the Research Department at (913) 469-9887.
