About Steven Marso

Steven P. Marso, MD, is medical director of cardiovascular services for HCA Midwest Health. With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Marso brings a breadth of cardiovascular expertise to his role of enhancing and growing the heart services offered by HCA Midwest through its hospitals, Midwest Heart and Vascular Specialists practices and physician services.

Prior to joining HCA Midwest Health, Dr. Marso served as Professor of Medicine and Medical Director of the Interventional Cardiology Section at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He is board certified in cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology, and is a practicing interventional cardiologist. His clinical interests and expertise are in complex PCI with an emphasis in CTOPCI.

Dr. Marso is extremely active in clinical research, with research interests in evaluating the cardiovascular safety and efficacy of therapies to treat diabetes mellitus. He is involved in several ongoing large cardiovascular outcome trials. Dr. Marso also has a research interest in evaluating the outcomes following PCI using large national databases. He has served on numerous professional leadership committees for entities such as the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology and the state of Missouri, among others. Dr. Marso has published more than 130 peer-reviewed manuscripts, edited four textbooks, mentored more than20 Interventional Cardiology fellows and is a frequent invited lecturer on the topics of PCI and diabetes and cardiovascular disease. He serves on the editorial advisory board for Cardiology Today Intervention, and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Council of Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology and the American Heart Association.

Dr. Marso earned his medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and trained in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia. He went on to complete a fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine and serve as chief cardiology fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Following that, he served as an interventional cardiology fellow at Mid America Heart Institute.
