Matthew Purtle, APA-C, is a physician assistant with Ortho KC Medical Group in Kansas City, Kan.  He is affiliated with Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Prior to relocating to the Kansas City area, Matthew most recently provided comprehensive orthopedic care in a practice setting. He has assisted in, and provided follow-up care for procedures including total hip and knee arthroplasty, arthroscopic shoulder surgery with rotator cuff repair, labral repair and biceps tenodesis, open rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic knee surgery, ACL allograft preparation, femoral, tibial and subtrochanteric hip fracture treatment. Matthew joined the healthcare private sector after a 15-year career in the U.S. Army during which he received multiple awards including the Army Meritorious Service Medal and four Army Commendation Medal Citations. After completing his physician assistant studies in 2011, Matthew spent the last five years of his military service providing primary care in the military equivalent of an Urgent Care setting with walk-in availability for illness and injury treatment, and managed the full range of patient cases. He also served as a Brigade Senior physician assistant, a leadership/supervisory role in which he managed a complete medical team responsible for care of more than 5,000 soldiers. He was also responsible for training and the implementation of a mobile field trauma hospital. Matthew followed his military service with work in outpatient primary care in the Rosebud Indian Health Services where he provided comprehensive medical care to the Lakota Sioux population.
