About Prem K Samuel

Dr. Samuel is an experienced cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon who has performed many complex procedures at multiple hospitals during his career. He has been practicing in the Kansas City metro area for the past 12 years. Dr. Samuel completed medical school, one year of house surgery, and three years of post-graduate training in general surgery at Madras University in Madras, India. His surgical internship was at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY. He then completed surgical residencies at SUNY Health Sciences in Syracuse, NY and University of Nevada School of Medicine in Las Vegas, NV. He also completed an accredited fellowship in Cardiovascular and Thoracic surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY. He completed a year of surgical basic science research at the University of Rochester Medical Center and he worked on long-term hypothermic storage of explanted hearts. Between his General surgery residency and his cardiovascular fellowship, he practiced as a General surgeon/Trauma surgeon/Burn surgeon for two years with Desert West Surgery, a private group in Las Vegas, NV. During this time, he held academic affiliation as a clinical instructor with the Department of surgery at the University of Nevada School of Medicine and was involved in teaching medical students and surgical residents. During medical school, Dr. Samuel won many awards and medals for proficiency in anatomy, pathology, forensic medicine, surgery, and preventive medicine. During his post graduate training, Dr. Samuel won awards in pediatric surgery and was awarded the Governor's medal for excellence in surgery. He is a published author, has multiple papers and has been a presenter at the American College of Surgeons. He has also received the America's Compassionate Doctor Award and was named the Patient Choice Award honoree four years in a row, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. His special areas of practice are adult cardiovascular surgery, general thoracic surgery, endovascular surgery, and peripheral vascular surgery. He also has special interest in the treatment of aortic aneurysmal disease. Dr. Samuel is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, a member of the Society of Vascular Surgeons, a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and a member of the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society.
